The Early Life Of Marilyn
Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson (later baptized Norma Jeane Baker) was born June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California. Norma Jeane grew up a series of foster homes, orphanages, and experienced poverty. Her up bringing was harsh, to say the least. She was sexually assaulted in three or more foster homes she was in. Throughout her whole childhood, she had always dreamed of being in the spotlight. Norma Jeane parted from her mother early on after her mother developed psychiatric problems and was taken to a metal institution.
In 1942 at the age of 16, Norma Jeane wed her boyfriend Jimmy Dougherty. As Jimmy was a Marine, he was shipped off and left Norma home to work in a factory job. It was at a factory where she was discovered by a photographer. When Jimmy returned home in 1946, Norma was an up and coming model and had changed her name to Marilyn Monroe (which later became one of the most iconic names in history.)
Her marriage came in an end quickly with the take off of her career. In 1946, Monroe signed her first movie contract and also got divorced from Dougherty; her marriage lasting less than one year. Her new name and image came with her first movie. Dying her hair from brown to platinum blonde, and changing her name to "Marilyn Monroe", she was destined for more roles in her career. Her acting career took off with a bang in the early 1950's. All eyes were on Marilyn after her small role in the drama, The Asphalt Jungle (1950). From here on, Monroe was set for a huge career.
